Buying Stevia Extract for Beverage Development in Kenya

If you are sourcing stevia extract for a beverage project in Kenya, begin with the composition and formulation requirements. Give the supplier the intended beverage format, the glycoside profile you want to evaluate and the quantity needed for trials. A clear brief makes bulk quotations more useful.

Stevia procurement guide for Kenyan beverage projects: define glycoside composition, evaluate a documented beverage trial and confirm delivery and import requirements.

  • Define the grade: request the glycoside profile, analytical method and any carrier declaration.
  • Run a relevant trial: use the intended beverage base and record the sample and formula revision.
  • Confirm the route: name the delivery point and have the responsible importer review applicable requirements.

This guide is for beverage developers, small brands and ingredient buyers preparing an enquiry. It does not prescribe a use level or confirm that a particular grade is permitted in your finished product.

Specify the glycoside profile you want to compare

Ask for the declared total steviol glycosides and the breakdown relevant to the proposed grade. If you are seeking a material specified for Reb A or Reb M, say so explicitly and request the applicable composition and analytical method. Confirm any carrier or other added ingredient.

The phrase “stevia extract” does not by itself give you enough information to compare two offers. Keep the material code and specification revision alongside each quote. Our stevia extract page outlines the details to discuss; available grades are confirmed during quotation.

Describe the beverage and the development target

Tell the supplier whether you are developing a ready-to-drink beverage, a powdered drink or another format. Share the relevant formulation conditions with your technical team and ask what grade-specific information is available.

  • The beverage base and intended processing method.
  • The sweetness and flavour profile your team wants to evaluate.
  • Any restrictions on carriers or additional ingredients.
  • The tests and acceptance criteria your formulator will use.
  • The destination market and the person responsible for regulatory review.

A complete brief can also make it easier to explain why one offered sample was accepted and another was not. It avoids making the next purchasing decision solely on the name printed on the quotation.

Compare samples within the same trial design

Evaluate candidate materials in the intended beverage base under a documented trial plan. Record the material identification, amount used, preparation method and observations. Ask your technical team which processing and storage checks are needed before moving from a bench trial to production.

If you compare a blend with a different glycoside composition, record that change explicitly. Do not treat equal weights as an automatically equivalent formulation comparison. Keep the accepted formula revision and sample record so that the commercial order refers to what was actually evaluated.

Compare formulation cost as well as price per kilogram

For an approved trial formula, an internal cost estimate can use the quantity of each candidate material required for a defined production batch, multiplied by its delivered unit cost. The quantity must come from your formulation work; a supplier headline cannot establish it for you.

Ask each supplier to separate material price, packing, freight and excluded destination charges. Include the named delivery point in Kenya, rather than using “Kenya delivery” as the entire instruction. A shipment quoted to a port or airport may leave further costs for the buyer to arrange.

For a small first order, compare the total amount committed, the usable material quantity and the planned reorder timing. Confirm MOQ and sample conditions for the offered grade. Avoid assuming the same commercial terms apply to every stevia specification.

Check documentation and the Kenyan import route before shipment

Request the specification, relevant COA, composition and available supporting declarations. Match the sample and commercial grade to the same material identification, and ask which batch documents will accompany the order.

KEBS describes a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme and a process under which qualified local manufacturers can apply for exemptions covering specified raw materials. Do not assume that an ingredient shipment or a small order is automatically exempt. Ask your importer to confirm the applicable route for your material and business using the official KEBS guidance. Separately confirm the permitted use and labelling of the proposed ingredient in your finished beverage.

Frequently asked purchasing questions

Should I ask only for a purity percentage?

Also ask what that percentage measures, the declared glycoside composition, the analytical method and any carrier. Use the offered specification to frame the comparison.

Can PHYTONIVA quote a trial order for Kenya?

Send your target grade, trial quantity and destination. PHYTONIVA can discuss sourcing options and quote subject to confirmation of material availability, MOQ, documentation and shipment arrangements.

Prepare your stevia extract RFQ

Include the glycoside profile, beverage format, sample quantity, trial-order quantity, document requirements and delivery location. If the formulation is still in development, identify what is decided and what still needs evaluation.

Sourcing coordination and quality checks

PHYTONIVA manages trade, sourcing and supplier coordination, matching ingredients and supply options to your specification, application and destination. The manufacturing partner provides its COA and relevant quality documents. Before procurement and dispatch, we arrange independent third-party quality testing and obtain the report for the agreed testing scope.

Specifications, sampling, test scope, methods and acceptance criteria are agreed before ordering. The manufacturer COA and agreed third-party test report accompany the shipment. Certification is checked separately for the named holder, product and valid scope.
